I grew up on the Surrey/Hampshire borders and as a child had a natural flair for all things creative, drawing, painting, sewing and many, many different crafts. I moved to Wales 18 years ago and in between working I found time to develop my skills further, encompassing textile arts, doll making, machine embroidery, glass and stone painting, in fact anything creative caught my interest.
My enthusiasm and desire to learn more took me to the West Wales School of the Arts where as a mature student I studied part time in fine art, textiles and fashion and clothing. I found my versatility meant I could turn my brush or needle to almost anything creative. I started making character dolls, textile sculptures and wildlife portraits, experimenting in different media, watercolour, oil, acrylic and coloured pencil. All be it a lifelong keen interest I have always regarded my art purely as a pastime. However, now that I am retired, I am keen to focus more on painting.
My inspiration comes from my love of nature, wildlife and plants and in particular my own garden. The last three years have been spent with my husband creating a beautiful garden where there was previously a boggy patch of moss, The process has rekindled in me that childhood wonder and excitement at seeing things grow, the magic of secret places in the garden and the wonderful restorative powers of being with nature. It has become my happy place and provided the references for a new body of work.
