Ruth Jayne Lewis

Ruth Jayne Lewis was born in Lincoln in 1966 and lived there for two years, moving to Llansteffan Carmarthenshire, she moved again to Chingford Essex, Newport Shropshire, Pembrey, Burry Port and Llanelli. She was born with a very rare genetic condition, Treacher Collins Syndrome and has had continual surgery since the age of one and being a patient of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children London for twelve years.

Ruth specialises in watercolours and mixed media in various subjects and techniques. Painting mainly in landscapes and seascapes, she experiments with reactions of water and colour to attain the effects of light, shadow, texture and atmosphere. She paints en plein air with fellow artists and is a member of the UK Plein Air and participates in their Gower Paint Out Week.

She is a member of the Guild of Aviation Artists and has now been promoted to associate member this year. Ruth uses her techniques from her landscapes and seascapes to apply to her aviation paintings and demonstrates this in GAVA sketching weekends in RAF Cosford, Duxford, Hendon and Fleet Air Arm Musem Yeovilton.

Ruth’s work has been exhibited in Llanelli House, the Athenaeum Hall Llanelli, Harbour Light Tearooms Burry Port, White Lion Street Gallery Tenby, Taliesin Gallery Swansea, Cardiff National Assembly, Harrogate International Centre, NEC Birmingham, Earl’s Court and the Mall Galleries London.

Ruth has an ongoing aviation exhibition in Set House Arts Gallery,  Haverfordwest and upcoming exhibitions in Harbour Light Tearooms Burry Port, the Athenaeum Hall Llanelli and the Mall Galleries London.

Ruth is an art tutor teaching three days a week, her clients include retired and working adults and adults with learning disabilities. She teaches from her studio and community centres.

She is a leading member of Llanelli Art Society. Ruth joined as a student in 1988 and has held several positions on the committee, Chairwoman, Programme Secretary and Exhibition Secretary. She exhibits with them three times a year.
