Minty Baker

Minty Baker of Brockwood Cottage Studio

Originally from Birmingham, I have lived in Wales since 2004, firstly in the Vale of Glamorgan, then moved to Llanelli in 2020.

After studying a Foundation Art and Design Course at Dudley Art College (1991), I took a degree at Wolverhampton University gaining a BA Hons in Art for Society and Computer Aided Design (1992-95).

I have been self employed for over 25 years, making and selling my work, of all different types, sewing, felting and pebble painting. As a single mother to two wonderful boys, it was essential to be able to work the hours I wanted to, and at home.

I discovered feltmaking in 2012 and self taught using Moy Mackay’s books, since then I have been making Textile Art and in 2016 starting teaching others how to make felt pictures.

My subjects include local landmarks, wildlife and nature.

I am particularly interested in Lighthouses and Castles, interesting little cottages and birds, badgers and foxes. Wales is abundant with these so is a wonderful place to live and work.

My husband is a professional photographer so we enjoy going out on location together to sketch and take photos. I then go back to the studio to ‘paint’ with wool. I use dyed merino wool to create my wool paintings, first wet felting, then dry felting on top and then free motion embroidery and then hand embroidery, it’s quite a process.

I am also a self taught crocheter, using YouTube videos by Bella Coco. I am now selling out of my crocheted items regularly on my Etsy store and hope to write more patterns available to download, to build up my pattern library.   I am a member of the International Feltmakers Association as well as Llanelli Art Society

My business relaunched in 2020 with a new name ‘Brockwood Cottage Studio’ to signify our new start in Llanelli, and you can follow me on Instagram @brockwoodcottage

Or take a look at my Etsy Shop at BrockwoodCottage.Etsy.com

Or my website is at BrockwoodCottageStudio.co.uk where I have a partnership with Teemill to print my artwork on demand on clothing or other items, plus you can order prints of my work here.
