BARBARA JANE

Barbara studied natural sciences and pursued work in environmental and school education for many years. Despite this she often dreamed of returning to develop her creativity. Now a part time artist alongside being a maths tutor, Barbara is realising this vision.

Barbara is still in a deeply explorative stage – she has been enjoying the wonderland of mixed media, printmaking and digital art. For her, variety is the spice, but the common thread that binds her work together is a love of colour, texture, design and the natural world.

She particularly enjoys working with organic forms and landscape, exploring the elements that make up the rich tapestry of our natural environment. A contrary side of her is also attracted to geometrical patterns, repeats and rhythm and she intends to explore the interplay between the two in future, investigating the underlying geometry in the natural, organic world.

In particular, she has been enjoying a workflow that includes both handmade and digital work. She often begins by using both printmaking and painting methods to decorate papers with colourful, textured patterns and marks.  She then scans the images and creates digital collages with these in artist software such as Procreate and Photoshop.

Barbara joined Y Ty Celf last year as an Associate Member and has been enjoying running workshops here, including gelli printing and watercolours. Her work is displayed on the community table downstairs in the form of prints, cards, coasters and cushions.
